Michelle’s role focuses on change management, an area she’d had exposure to in previous companies. “I was previously a project manager in the construction industry, focused mainly on the physical build-out or fit-up of space. However, I worked alongside change managers so was very much exposed to it. This insight, along with my background in real estate, allowed me to transition into the role I have today.”

During the interview process, it became clear to Michelle that MovePlan was a company she wanted to work for, “not least because it is women owned and led”. Its global reach and its culture encouraged her to find out more. “The standardised training and onboarding was a huge draw. Also the fact that MovePlan is a smaller company was attractive. I met with the Managing Director straightaway, so it was clear I’d be getting exposure with people at all levels within MovePlan. I knew this would provide me with insight into the bigger picture, so I would gain an understanding of MovePlan’s vision and direction. This really helps with progression and it has provided me with a voice and influence, which you wouldn’t get in a large organisation. This is the first smaller company I have worked for and I love it.”

My weeks are never the same… one day I can be making introductions to new clients, the next I can be working on client delivery.  It’s a real people-centric role.

Through her role Michelle gains exposure to business development, building teams, and client delivery.

“Every day is different. One day I can be making introductions to new clients, telling them about the company and the services we offer, understanding the challenges they’re facing and finding out how we can help them. The next I can be working on client delivery, helping them with internal strategising, and brainstorming ways of engaging with the workforce. It’s a real people-centric role.”

Team building is also a large part of Michelle’s responsibilities. “It’s really interesting taking the fundamentals of change management and applying them to your own team. I work with them on their career progression by understanding what interests and drives them, helping to expand their own connections and knowledge.”

Being based in Canada adds another aspect to the role; growing the region’s business and connecting with teams across the US and the globe, so that Canada continues to thrive. “Luckily the culture in MovePlan supports all of this. It’s collaborative, open and gives us autonomy and flexibility which really helps us progress with our work. Even though so many of us work flexibly, the focus is on team cohesion. So whether that’s helping people connect with someone in another region, or supporting team days where we get together, the company really understands that we are a people business and it’s this that allows us to successfully deliver the best service to our clients – because we all work so well together.”

Michelle’s advice for anyone considering working with us: “This isn’t your typical PM role. It’s very entrepreneurial. If you’re looking to do the same thing every day, this role isn’t for you. But if you’re looking to be exposed to new ideas, innovation, a collaborative working culture and team working, then I would encourage you to apply!”
